Are You An Expert In Your Field?

Have you ever thought about that question or been asked if you are an expert? I was talking with someone recently who asked me that exact question and I said “I wouldn’t consider myself an “expert” because I knew some people knew more than me.” She stopped me in my tracks and asked me if I knew more than some people, to which I answered yes. She then proceeded to tell me if I knew more than someone, I could consider myself an expert. I had never really thought of it that way.

The definition of expert according to dictionary.com is: “possessing special skill or knowledge; trained by practice; skillful or skilled (often followed by in or at):

an expert driver; to be expert at driving a car.”
After that conversation and looking at the definition, I guess I do consider myself an expert at many things now. The point of this is, it’s all in how you interpret things. Never before that conversation would I have used that term in regards to myself, but now I will. This can apply to many things in your life, not only for being an expert. So next time someone either boasts they are an expert, think about this. Almost anyone can call themselves an expert, but does their quality of what they do stand up to the “title?”
